Samsung John Legend (2013)
Samsung and Verizon were looking to promote the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear during the pre-holiday timeframe. MAC Presents created a custom partnership for Samsung and Verizon with John Legend which allowed them to leverage his sold out shows in target markets including Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee and Minneapolis.
The Legendary Notes promotion allowed consumers to enter to win tickets or autographed albums online or via social media. Winners were selected randomly and notified to arrive at the a designated Verizon store the following day to claim their prize. At the store, they had the opportunity to receive a discount if they purchased a Samsung product during the in-store event. John arrived to surprise his fans and personally select one person to receive a Samsung Galaxy Note + Gear and backstage access as the Social Media Correspondent at that night’s show.
All winners had the opportunity to meet and take a photo with John in front of a co-branded step and repeat. Fans used a Galaxy Note 3 to retrieve and share photos from a custom photo booth set up at each venue, where they also received photo print outs as a keepsake.
Billboard sent a writer and photographer to spend the day with John in Chicago. They came to the Verizon store with him and included coverage in the “A Day in the Life” editorial coverage. Photos of the in-store giveaway and meet and greet were included in a photo album created to give fans a behind the scenes glimpse of the day.
